Sculpture - from tradition to modern age (background and development)

These days we live with the abstract, the results of modernism. Since the beginning of the 20th century artists have engaged in a prolonged development of expression. Abstraction was the result of a process of engagement with form, space, questioning, and then a deeper understanding.

In my work I don't want to reuse the common language of the abstract. I want to communicate my own deeper understanding and express it in my sculptures.

In 2014 I took this as my theme. Like a pilgrimage through art history this is a path I want to follow - both artistically and practically.

I want to find a response to how social, political, and economic influences affected the work of artists, especially sculptors.

The first stage of my "journey" is comprised of reading and research, of collecting and organizing. That's the stage I am in now.
